WHAT I HAVE ARCHIVED (11/18/24 MM/DD/YY)
TO ANY SIZEOF(CAT) READERS THAT MAY HAPPEN UPON THIS SITE: I APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE.
I read a simple post on sizeof(cat) about what they archive over there. I took the liberty of emailing in a response, and at their suggestion I've decided to return to the site for a bit and post it here. I highly suggest you read their article before this one, as I'm speaking as if responding to their post (I was). I've also added and edited some parts a bit to fit this site a bit better.
- I keep all the music I listen to entirely in mp3 format (which I know is not great). I've got about 17GB myself. I use MusicBee to listen to everything because I'm not a fan of Spotify or Apple Music or anything like that.
- Lots of random other audio files, like leaked song archives, drum loops, etc. Only about 10GB altogether, though.
- Random books but often as weird old scans I found that look particularly interesting. I don't bother to try and compress them or anything so some of them are 1GB alone. I don't read them nearly as much as I should.
- Some ROMs and many, many emulators, some of which I probably don't even have any games to play on anymore. I have a couple Japanese games with English patches, too, just for fun. Captain Rainbow on the Wii is pretty good. For the Wii it's best to look for games that had support for the GameCube controller, that way you can emulate it without motion controls. I also have kept many, many Flash files and games back from when they first were being kicked out of the major browsers.
- I have a few shows and 20 movies or so. I try to keep shows I want to watch (which I haven't in a while), as well as a few shows I think will not often see the light of day anymore. Like, I have R. Kelly's rap opera Trapped in the Closet (which I can legitimately recommend), and "Juiced" with OJ Simpson, to name a few. That all takes up about 140GB, and then I have 116GB in Japanese game and variety shows saved too. I'm a big fan of Denpa Shonen and Gaki no Tsukai's Batsu Game series, among other random things.
- I've ripped several VICE documentaries from their golden age 10-20 years ago. I highly recommend their Hitchhiking series (plural), North Korean Labor Camps, probably a few others I'm not remembering. Lots of good and frankly insane shit back then. It usually treaded the line between journalism and straight up crime, which is great to watch.
- I also keep several downloads of data leaks (some from sizeof(cat) themself), as well as downloads of entire webpages if they have tutorials I'd like to keep permanently offline. Stuff about ZipCrypto, privacy guides, anti-Cloudflare, TempleOS stuff (those are the only ISOs I keep), things like that.
Yeah, I guess that's about it. No idea if any of that is interesting to a general audience or not. It'd be more exciting if I could host all the files here to show off, but Neocities doesn't quite work like that.
